Colin Minkler’s “Breakout Room” is an original jazz big band piece that was created in 2020 during the Pandemic. The piece simulates an online call session that has people going into multiple different breakout rooms. The more people that join the rooms, the more chaotic the session gets. This piece emulates that sensation with multiple horn parts playing at the same time while the rhythm section keeps time with a catchy bassline. The piece evolves into a soundtrack that would go perfectly in a spy movie or an action anime! A band considering performing this piece should be at an high intermediate to advanced level in a high school, college, or professional group.
